LCRC News

The next club meeting will be held on Wednesday May 28th 7:00 PM, at the flying field.

The LCRC 2008 Swap Shop was a big success, due once again to the great effort by Bob Grashel, and all the members who showed up to help run the event.

Frequency control: The first thing every pilot should do upon arriving at the flying field, is to obtain the frequency pin for his transmitter. If the frequency pin is taken, you should impound your transmitter immediately until you can obtain the pin from the person who is using it. The other person should impound their transmitter after you obtain the pin from them. There should be no exceptions! Please keep the frequency pin attached to your transmitter, so we can easily identify transmitters without a pin.

Thanks to all the LCRC die-hard's who turned out to fly and help at the rain fly, err, uh, Electric Fly-in.

We have lots of 110VAC outlets around the shelter. A 75 amp, 12VDC power supply had been installed, along with a nice 12 volt distribution box. The AC power must be turned on to power the 12 volt box. The combination on the breaker box is the same as all our locks. Please turn off the power when you leave.

We had a HUGE turnout for the Open House! 35 people signed up to fly, and we trained all of them on the simulator and got all of them in the air with a buddy box. Thanks to all members who helped with the event! Pictures from the event are here.

Congratulations to Doug "Grizz" Smith, and Will Ridenbaugh, on their performance at the combat meet. More info here. Griz and Will attended another combat meet in Tennesse the weekend of June 25th, and they represented us well by finishing Dead Azz last, and next to last

The new phone books are here! The new phone books are here! Well, not really. But the new LCRC ball caps are here. Available in stylish blue or yellow, with the always popular LCRC logo on the front. Make sure to attend the next meeting to collect yours. Many thanks to the late Phil Davis for getting the hats for us.

New "business": Vice President Larry Shaub has acquired a new meeting room, er - latrine, for us. Please feel free to stop by the flying field and use it to do your business.

Flying field update: We are flying over East Main St.!!! Two of our members walked up under the power lines to the North of our field, while several more us waited at the field, and a trainer airplane made three landing approaches, all three of which passed over the power lines to the north of the field. It's true boys. We're all doing it, and we need to mend our evil ways! If a high wing trainer is flying over the wires without knowing it, think about our larger, faster, aerobatic planes...... The flying field you save could be your own.

Hobbico is exchanging select old OS engines for new engines!  Check here to see if you are eligible.

A note about flight line etiquette: We have 5 pilot stations at our flying field, and up to five pilots are permitted to fly simultaneously. We all pay the same club dues and we are all entitled to equal usage of all club assets, including the flying field and the associated airspace. While it is nice to "take turns" flying whenever it's convenient, there are no club rules providing empty airspace to anyone for any reason. The only unofficial rule is that new untested models should have the air to themselves for a test flight, and anyone making their first solo flight(s) should be given "right-of-way" when convenient, but once again these are not club rules, and this convenience should only be afforded after the associated pilot asks the crowd NICELY and KINDLY if it would be alright for him/her to have the unfettered use of the field for 1 flight.

Anyone requiring empty air to fly, must fly during the many available hours when the field is not in use by other members.

If you travel to other clubs to fly you will find that we at LCRC are MUCH better about "taking turns" to fly, and there are normally SEVERAL aircraft in the air simultaneously at other clubs.

Also: Pilots must display the frequency pin on their transmitter at all times, or impound their radio. It is not acceptable to just clip your frequency pin somewhere at the field, other than on your transmitter

Be safe. Have fun. And be safe.

Merv Frazee is in assisted living. See the private club roster page for his location and contact information. Merv would probably appreciate a visit if you can find the time.

Don's Hobbies is offering a discount to AMA members and all local clubs, including LCRC and Columbus and Zanesville and Mt. Vernon, etc.

SAFETY ALERT: We are averaging at least one NASTY injury per year, involving contact between a propeller and human flesh. . Please use caution around propellers!  I've seen way too many people who are not giving that spinning propeller the respect that it deserves. Whenever possible DO NOT reach around the propeller to do anything. Do not stand in front of, or beside the propeller when running up the engine. Always stand BEHIND the propeller when running the engine up. In my few short years in this hobby I've seen many propellers and spinners break apart and come lying off! Stand behind the engine!

LCRC Club Roster: The full club roster has been added to the web site on a password protected page. Please email me, or check with another club member for the username and password. Please do not give out the password to anyone who is not a club member.

LCRC Zone: We now have our own discussion board on our web site. Please email me with suggestions about the content.

A Kestrel hand held wind speed meter has been purchased and it is stored in the lock box at the field.

Official AMA Aircraft Identification Labels are available here in Microsoft Word format, and here as a JPEG image.

A frequency scanner has been purchased and is stored in the lock box at the field. Please feel free to utilize this device and report any suspicious radio activity.

Walkie talkies have been purchased and are stored in the lock box at the field, to assist in locating downed aircraft. Hopefully we will never need them, but, oops - They have already been used successfully, many many times.

The barrier fence has been moved to the rear of the pilot area to protect pilots from aircraft taxiing out to the runway, and individual barriers have been constructed in front of each of the five pilot stances to protect pilots from aircraft on the runway. Thanks to past president John Foit for pioneering this project, and thanks to Roger Phillips and Chris Peffers for helping to make it happen.

Helicopter pilots take note: Monday evenings are "Helicopter Night", with an opportunity for helicopter pilots to get together and fly and and talk choppers. So gather up your helicopters on Monday evenings and head to the field for some rotary fun! Plank pilots are of course still welcome to fly on Monday evenings, but pilots of both type aircraft should always use common courtesy and allow each other due time and space for exercising their particular type of aircraft.

Flying time at the field has been changed to 8:00 AM to 9:00 PM. Flying times were changed to accommodate night flying, which requires proper lighting on the aircraft and a person to act as a spotter.

Anyone wishing to participate in float flying should contact Clem Anderson or Dave Rechsteiner who can provide help and organize aquatic flying events.

You are looking at the LCRC web site at it's new address of www.lcrcc.net. The second "c" at the end was necessary because the "lcrc" domain name was already taken by someone else. lcrcc can be interpreted as "Licking County Radio Control Club". Our club members voted to purchase commercial free web space and our own domain name, both of which make things easier for our cyber-visitors. It was necessary to start with a new guestbook when we changed over, so please sign our guestbook and put in your 2 cents worth.

Some very nice looking LCRC shirts are available for $15. These shirts sport the LCRC letters and an embroidered picture of an airplane. The shirts are available in a variety of styles, including short sleeve and long sleeve. Call Ron Messenger at 522-2942 to order one of these sharp looking shirts.

A list of  instructors has been established on the Contacts page.

For Sale items have been moved to the new Classifieds Page.

Note to LCRC members:

We need your feedback and suggestions about what to put on this web site. Items like club news, events, pictures, text (like maybe hints and tips for building or flying). Maybe a list of people willing to help with various activities (like flight instruction), etc. Anything.  If you see something on a site out in cyberspace and you think we should do something similar, there is a very good chance we can implement something like it. Just email me with  any comments or suggestions, and attach any pictures or files you want to include on the site.

We also need to know who wants to be included on the Contact Page.
